In Greek (the language in which the New Testament was written), “Jesus Christ” is “Ἰησοῦς Χριστός” (Iēsous Khrīstos). The initial letters (Ι & Χ) are transcribed in the Roman alphabet as I X. Together those letters represent the number 9. In Chinese, the number 9 (九, jiǔ) represents both “eternal” (the homophone 久, jiǔ) and, by association, the “Son of Heaven.”

In Jesus Christ, all things (represented by the circle) hold together (ref. Colossians 1:17).
The disc also symbolises a Communion wafer, the Body of Christ. “We who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.” (1 Corinthians 10:17, ESV)

The 3 strokes of the letters IX symbolise the nails which pierced Christ’s hands and feet on the Cross. And they remind us of the beatings and whippings he also endured beforehand. “With His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 55:3, KJV)

The 3 dots below symbolise the drops of blood which fell from His wounds, through which we have forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
 The 3 dots are also a reminder that Christ is part of the Trinity and also of a number of triplets throughout the Scriptures, such as:

  • ”Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty” (Isaiah 6:3 and Revelation 4:8);
  • ”… to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8);
  • “faith, hope and love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13)

“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.  And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.  For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” (1 Colossians 1:17-20)
